Neighbors

When my wife and I bought our first house, we didn’t realize that the neighbors had a bunch of kids (like 9 or 10).  The parents were working all the time, which left the older kids supposedly watching the younger kids, which meant that they all pretty much did whatever they wanted to.  Not long after we moved in I was home by myself one day doing yard work.  Two of the kids kept coming over while I was outside.  The older one of the 2 especially seemed to be making himself at home.  Later I told them I needed to shower before my wife got home because we were going out.  When I finished my shower I pulled back the shower curtain and about jumped out of my skin – one of the kids was standing there waiting for me, and did not at all seem to be disturbed that I was standing there buck naked.  I was embarrassed as hell and creeped out too.  Despite my repeatedly saying how much I did not like them wandering into our house, that was not the last time I got walked in on.

We lived there for several years before we sold the house and moved.  One of the last nights we were there, my wife and I had just finished having sex.  When she went to the bathroom, I heard a giggling noise outside and I realized that someone was standing outside our window.  I realized later that even though the shades were drawn, if you stood close to the window you could see through the cracks and holes enough to get a pretty good view of what was going on inside.  Anyway, I wanted to try to catch them, so I got up and pulled on the shorts that I had closest to me which were a pair of skimpy jockey type underwear.  Our bedroom was in the front of the house, so I went out the back door so I could sneak around the side to catch them.  It was dark out so I wasn’t too concerned about the neighbors seeing me.  I peeked around the corner and there were 2 of the neighbors kids standing there peeking through the blinds into our bedroom.  I was furious, so I took off to try to catch them.  They saw me coming and ran toward their house.  Just then, the mom pulled into their driveway and saw them running from our house and me chasing after them.  I was furious so I walked right over to her car and started yelling, and it never occurred to me until later that I was standing there in underwear that were so skimpy I might as well have been naked.   It wasn’t long before the whole family was standing in the driveway watching the crazy naked guy yelling at their mom about her peeping tom kids.  I made her walk over to our windows to show her where they were, and that’s when we discovered how easily you could see in when standing right there.  She was furious with the kids at that point.  When my wife came out with a robe I realized how little I was wearing and I must have gone 4 shades of red.  The kids got in big trouble, and that was about the last time we had to deal with them.

Weird GF Hookup

While me and my friends went to the river, and we were naked because we didn’t have any swim trunks so we went naked, when 3 girls stole our clothes and when we got out they saw us, while my friends covered up I knew they had saw us, so I just stood there and they gave me my clothes and my crush told me to ask her out, so I did and she said, “OK” well I hadn’t put on my clothes yet so I gave her a big hug. Well, I put on my clothes I turned around and watched my friends, all 3 of them stand there naked, with us watching them when they finally put their hands to their side I threw there clothes into a tree, so we watched them climb into a tree. The sad part was one of them got halfway up and slid all the way down with there thing rubbing the tree the whole time while he fell. So he hit the ground I ran to him and he was holding his face with his legs spread and said, “Is it still there” so I said, “Yeah” and I climbed the tree, got their clothes and climbed back down. Well, me and my new GF left and made out 10 minutes later. So not a total loss and that wasn’t the last time I went swimming naked that summer.Laughing

Underpantsed in the mall

One time when I was 11, I was cruising around the mall looking for some of my friends. My older sister (3 years older) was with me. She was getting mad because I kept bumping her into the wall when we turned corners (hey, its fun!), and she kept yelling at me. Then I saw a couple girls I know from school, so I walked over to them saying hi. As I walked over I bumped my sister into the wall one last time, and I guess that set her off. I took a few more steps toward the girls, and my sister comes up behind me and pulls my baggy shorts to my ankles. AND…(*hangs head*) my boxers went down with them. That was so mean of her!!!! I mean, I guess she wasn’t trying for my boxers, but look what she did to me anyway!!! I was so embarrassed by the girls I knew seeing me naked I wished I could melt into the floor right then. The girls were choking with laughter and I yanked up my boxers and shorts and walked away, so embarrassed by my boxers being pulled down in front of them that I was crying. My sister was running after me saying she was sorry, she didn’t mean to pull down my underwear. I was so embarrassed.

Running Late IV. Embarrassment

embarrassing moments
I think a major reason for delaying or postponing the start of a running program for many over 50 runners is the fear of embarrassment. What will others think or say when they see me running? How will my friends react to my “I started running” announcement? Well, as is true with many assumptions, these are not nearly as serious as we fear. Think for a moment about the last time you passed an out of shape, plodding runner on the road. What was your first impression? It may have been surprise, admiration or perhaps just a neutral register in your mind. It’s unlikely that it was negative. Suppose it was someone you recognized; someone who was a total surprise for you to see running. Now what would be your reaction? I doubt that it would be disdain or dismissive. In fact the next meeting with that person might start with your encouraging acknowledgment that you had see them running.

Runners as a group are gracious to other runners. Almost every time I’ve encountered another runner on one of my runs, we’ve exchanged greetings. Even those who are lost in their music and endorphin haze, (yea, a lot of times that’s me) make the effort to say hello. In races, where sometimes the competitive juices overflow, I’ve never seen anything but encouragement and support from other runners.

If we divide the world into runners and nonrunners, what can you expect from each? The runners will be supportive. The nonrunners will either be impressed and admiring, neutral or most likely apathetic. Your friends are your friends because they like you. They really don’t care whether you run or sit. Your running is all about you. Surprise your friends by not only starting but continuing to run. Cast off those inhibitions and lace up.
